- Pick the correct case, nominative, objective, or possessive, for any pronoun in a sentence.
- Test a compound subject or object by removing the other half of the pair.
- Rewrite a sentence with a vague pronoun so the antecedent is unmistakable.
What the lesson concludes
- A pronoun's case depends on its job in the sentence: subject, object, or owner.
- Drop the other noun in a compound pair and the correct pronoun becomes obvious.
- Possessive pronouns never take an apostrophe: hers, theirs, its, yours, ours.
- If a sentence has two possible antecedents for one pronoun, name the person instead.
